About Dr. Kyando
Azael Haward Kyando is a Tanzanian medical doctor with a master's in healthcare management, and he's spent the years since medical school figuring out how to do the job well without losing himself in it. That question — how to lead, care for people, and stay whole while doing it — runs through his four books, his talks, and the coaching work he does through VitaraAfya.
He grew up in Tanzania and went into medicine for a fairly ordinary reason — he wanted to help the people around him. What he didn't expect was how much the job would teach him about leadership: how a ward runs, how decisions get made under pressure, and how easy it is to lose sight of the person in front of you when the system is stretched thin.
As an author, Azael has written books that explore the intersection of medicine, leadership, mental health, and personal growth. His writing combines personal reflection, professional insight, and practical wisdom, speaking to readers navigating their own journeys of becoming.
On stage, he talks to roughly the same range of people who read his books — hospital staff, corporate teams, university students, anyone trying to lead without pretending they have it all figured out. He'd rather tell one true story from the ward than hand out five generic tips.
Outside of clinical work and writing, he mentors younger doctors and students through VitaraAfya, and spends a fair amount of time thinking about how healthcare systems in Tanzania could serve people better — not in the abstract, but in the specific, fixable ways he runs into every week at work.
"Leadership is not about the title. It is about the willingness to serve, the courage to grow, and the discipline to stay true to who you are becoming."

"Wonderful wisdom in these books "(Leading Without Losing Yourself, A Second Sunrise, The Doctor I Became)", I can comfortably recommend these books to anyone who seeks wisdom for self-reflection and help. It keeps getting better as you read."
"I started with Leading Without Losing Yourself, and I already feel that it is the perfect book for me. I was recently given a leadership role as an in-charge, yet I had no previous experience or clear idea of what leadership really involves. The pressure has been intense, and honestly, it has not been easy. Thank you for writing this book. The preface alone spoke directly to my situation; I felt as though it had been written specifically for me! 😅"
